The drive from Hokkaido`s capital city of Sapporo to Shakotan is a convenient 90km, with a leisurely 1.5 hour driving time.
Just follow Route 5, the Otaru, toward Yoichi. From Yoichi, Route 229 leads you to the spectacular Shakotan Peninsula and Shakotan Town. If you choose to self drive, hire cars are normally available from Otatu station.
